Nails spill on I-26 stopping traffic for hours

A "magnet" truck was called to pull all the nails off the highway.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A minor accident on Interstate 26 has left drivers stranded for hours because of spilled nails.

According to Lance Cpl. David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the collision happened Thursday night around the 123 mile marker in the eastbound lane. Officers say but the vehicle that was initially struck was pushed into a roofing truck carrying a large quantity of roofing nails. After the wreck, the nails spilled onto the highway.

Jones says a magnet truck was called to pull all the nails off the highway.

The roadway was cleaned up a little before 10 p.m.
