Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- When a seventh grade student walks into Christine Shuler's class they can expect to learn a lot about English Language Arts, and a lot about themselves.
For more than 20 years, Shuler has stood in the front of the same classroom at Alice Drive Middle School. She's from Sumter, so she embraces the community that she's called home her entire life. Shuler is the mother of two daughters, ages 12 and 14. She admits that being a mother makes her a better teacher.
Her students say they appreciate knowing that she has a mother's love for them.
Shuler's hard work has been recognized by her peers and her principal. Every year she's been nominated for "Teacher of the Year," she's taken her name out of the running.
"Every day she learns something new from her students," Shuler said.
Students like Nada Rahal, so that any student should consider themselves "blessed" to be in Mrs. Shuler's class.
