Person identified in fatal Sumter crash

Three people were transported by helicopter with life threatening injuries

SUMTER, S.C. — One person is dead after a two car collision in Sumter county. 

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol David Jones the accident happened on Pinewood Road near Avin road round lunch time.  

A 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on Pinewood when it crossed the center lane, according to SCHP, striking a 2016 Toyota truck head on.  The drivers of both of the trucks were air lifted to a local hospital along with the passenger in the Chevrolet    

No word yet on the injuries to the other drivers.   

The passenger in the Toyota, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sumter county coroner Robert Baker said that Robert Cousar, 70 of Manning was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy will be performed on Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. 

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
