Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A water main break in Columbia has caused parts of Whaley Street to shut down.

The City of Columbia says there is 12-inch water main break in the area. As a result, Whaley Street from Main Street to Marion Street is closed until repairs are complete. Columbia Water is currently working at the scene, according to a report.

A boil water advisory was also issued in the area, because the break may cause bacterial contamination of the water.

Water customers of Whaley Street from Main to Pickens Street and Marion Street from Whaley Street to Rosewood Drive are asked to vigorously boil water for at least one minute before drinking or cooking. If you live in the area and have lost water and/or water pressure, you should also boil water for one minute.

Ice not made from boiled water should also not be consumed.
