Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A moist, tropical air mass covers much of the Southeast which will last through the weekend. Skies will be mostly cloudy on Saturday with a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. However, today will be the least chance for rain. If you need to do something outdoors, today is the best day to do it.
The chance for rain will be on the increase Sunday as Alberto moves north in the Gulf of Mexico. Rain will be likely on Monday and Tuesday as the storm makes landfall somewhere along the central Gulf coast. Rainfall is likely to be in the range of 1 to 3 inches for both days. Certainly not the holiday most were expecting.
As the system weakens and moves northeast the chance for rain will begin to diminish on Wednesday and this trend will continue into the next weekend. Each day will see a little more sun. This means that it will be hot and humid by Friday. Rainfall over the next seven days is likely to be in the 2 to 4-inch range. A more summer-like weather pattern is likely by next weekend.
