An employee is on leave, and an investigation is underway, after a fight at a Richland County high school.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An employee is on leave and an investigation is underway after a fight at a Richland County high school.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a teacher and a 15-year-old student got into a physical fight in a classroom at Ridge View High School.

Details regarding what lead up to fight are unknown at this time, but videos of the fight are reportedly circulating on social media.

The school's principal, Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth, says she is "unable to share many other details" about the incident because it is under investigation by the Richland School District Two and local law enforcement.

In a letter to parents, Foxworth explained the school's actions:

"We wanted you to know that we are taking this incident very seriously. Ridge View High and Richland School District Two does not condone physical altercations and violent behavior. We strive to ensure a safe and secure environment for teaching and learning. Pending the outcome of the investigation, school and district administrators will take appropriate action following board policy and district procedures."

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said a school resource officer did respond to the incident. They also added that no other students or faculty were involved.
