SC man, 72, shot in arm by deputies serving warrant

A police report says Michael Sloan opened the door to his home when deputies arrived and pointed a gun.

LIBERTY, S.C. — Authorities say a 72-year-old man has been shot in the arm by sheriff's deputies who were serving a domestic violence warrant at a South Carolina home.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said no deputies were injured in the incident Wednesday night in Liberty.

A police report says Michael Sloan opened the door to his home when deputies arrived and pointed a gun.

The report says officers fired and Sloan went back inside and refused to come out for three hours.

A police report says Tuesday Sloan's wife told investigators at the hospital she had been attacked by her husband.

Berry says Sloan is expected to survive. Deputies say he remains in the hospital.

Berry says the officers and Sloan are all white.
