COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina Department of Corrections officer is being accused of trying to bring several different types of drugs into the prison where he worked.
The SC Department of Corrections Police Services issued warrants for Steven Allen Washington. Washington worked at Ridgeland Correctional Institution in Jasper County.
The warrant against him claims he entered the prison on April 17 with a paper bag that appeared to have food in it. Officers say it actually had what's believed to be 262 ecstasy pills, meth, marijuana, and cocaine.
He's charged with manufacturing and possession of schedule I, II, III drugs with intent to distribute; trafficking in more than 100 doses of ecstasy; trafficking in more than 28 grams of methamphetamines/cocaine base; possession of cocaine; and attempting to furnish contraband to a prisoner.
