All Richland Two schools given 'all-clear' after off-campus shooting

Deputies say one person was shot and taken to the hospital.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - All Richland Two schools in northeast Richland County have been given the all-clear following an off-campus shooting that led to lockouts and delayed dismissals Monday afternoon.

The shooting was in the 4800 block of Hardscrabble Road. Investigators say the shooting was not on school grounds, but as a precaution, Ridge View High School and Rice Creek Elementary School were placed on lockout. That lockout has now been lifted.

News19 was originally told it was a lockdown, but Richland School District Two officials clarified that this is a lockout, which is different. A lockout means everyone stays in the building and no one can enter or leave. However, in those situations, students can move around within the building and continue with classes.

Richland School District Two later sent a note to parents saying that several other schools would delay dismissal. However, a short time after making that statement, they updated and said they'd heard back from law enforcement that things were safe, and class would dismiss as normal.

Deputies say one person was injured in the shooting and taken to the hospital. Authorities have not given an update on the search for a suspect, but said they would have added patrols on Hardscrabble Road and in the Lake Carolina/Summit area for several hours.
