COLUMBIA, S.C. — Agents from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) continue their work in an investigation of an incident Tuesday, April 16, when one man was shot and killed during a confrontation with an officer of the Fountain Inn Police Department.
SLED conducts law enforcement officer involved shooting investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident. These independent investigations follow SLED’s guidance in conducting interviews along with the gathering and analysis of forensic evidence. Interviews are being conducted with the responding officers and others.
This is an ongoing investigation.
This incident is the 18th officer involved shooting in the state this year. It is the first involving an officer at the Fountain Inn Police Department, this year. In 2018, there were 43 officer-involved shootings in South Carolina; none involved the Fountain Inn Police Department.
