Fairfield County, SC (WLTX) - A small earthquake was recorded in Fairfield County Saturday morning,
The U.S. Geological Survey says a 2.4 magnitude quake struck around 1:15 Saturday morning. It was centered about seven miles west-southwest of Winnsboro Mills.
The fracture took place about 2.5 miles under the surface.
At this point it's unclear if anyone actually felt the quake. At that magnitude, it's on the fringe of what a humans can actually sense. The USGS shakemaps had no people respond to a call to see if anyone felt it.
Minor earthquakes happen several times a year in South Carolina, as the state does have a fault line that runs through it. The most significant quake in recorded history in the state happened in 1886 in Charleston, when a massive tremor caused significant damage and killed 60 people.
