ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Claflin University was a buzz as the announcement that many students, faculty and alumni have been waiting for finally arrived.

Today it was announced that Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack will become the ninth president of Claflin University.

Dr. Warmack succeeds Dr. Henry Tisdale who served as president for 25 years.. He comes to the historically black college (HBCU) after being president for five years at Harris-Stowe State University in Missouri and has more than 20 years of experience total in higher education.

Warmack will be the youngest president in Claflin's 150 year history and he shared why he's excited to come and serve the students and faculty.

"Being ranked among the top HBCU’s in the country, it’s an honor to come and serve here. I think my skill set and knowledge base that I’ve been able to acquire over the past 20 years and it allows me to continue to do what I’m called to do. I am a servant leader and unapologetic about my faith and so to come to an institution that’s Christ centered and continues to serve the population that I know I’m called to serve, is an honor" says Warmack.

Dr. Warmack will officially begin his role of president of Claflin University on August 1st.
