Forest Acres gains more retail, restaurants and residential spaces

Forest Acres gains more retail, health-focused businesses.

FOREST ACRES, S.C. — The Cardinal Crossing development in Forest Acres is coming closer to completion with new restaurants, a fitness studio, a nail spa and even town homes expected to be a part.

Last year, the developer announced Club Pilates, an Irvine, CA, based boutique fitness studio, would be the latest addition to the development. It will join Bad Daddy's Burger Bar, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Aria Nail Spa, among other businesses already there or possible for the property.

"I think it means more opportunities for shopping and for working," Forest Acres City Councilman John Barnes said. "I think it's more amenities for the community. It's certainly more development which helps us with revenue for the city so that we can do things for the residents."

A new senior living community called "The Heritage" is also in the works.

"It's another 50 to 60 million dollar development that's going to be centered around senior living (including) memory care, assisted living and independent cottages on the former Epworth Children's Home property on Sunnyside."

New property can raise traffic concerns.

Officials with the South Carolina Department of Transportation tell News 19 they've reviewed the impact the Cardinal Crossing Development could have on traffic and determined that, with a few minor changes, the current infrastructure should be able to withstand the change in traffic flow.
