Girl empowerment day in Orangeburg

Nearly 50 young ladies from the ages of 11-17 came together to learn and lift up one another

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Nearly 50 young ladies from the ages of 11-17 came together to learn and lift up one another at the 5th annual 'Girl Empowerment Camp' at the Orangeburg city gym.

The event is sponsored by S.A.F.E. an organization that promotes self esteem, advocacy, faith and education in the lives of youth.

The goal of the gathering is to encourage, inspire and empower them to be all they were created to be and through activities and workshops provide them with tools necessary to lead a productive life.

Shanika Aiken, founder of the S.A.F.E organization says, "We have some dynamic speakers that are coming and they’ll be talking on different topics such as self esteem and bullying."

Aiken goes on to say, "So we want to be able to expose them to something entirely different and our hope is that they take what we give them and share it with their friends and their community."

The camp will run till Wednesday. Registration is still open and participants can register on site at the Orangeburg city gym before 9 a.m.
