Irmo to hold public hearing about Blue Granite Tuesday night

Citizens will have an opportunity to speak about the sewer rate increase at a public hearing preceding

IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Town Council is holding a public hearing at 7 p.m.on Tuesday night concerning the sewer rate increase proposed by Blue Granite Water Company. 

Citizens will have an opportunity to speak and sign a petition before the regularly scheduled council meeting on Tuesday. 

In September, Blue Granite Water Company filed a case to increase rates on its approximately 30,000 customers in 16 counties across South Carolina. More information is available here

On the agenda for the meeting that will follow the hearing are two items of unfinished business followed by six items of new business.

There will be a second reading of an amendment to an ordinance on concealed weapons removing the word "pistol" from the ordinance.

There will also be a second reading for an amendment to change maximum density for multi-family from 16 to 4 per acre in the zoning ordinances. 

Some of the new business includes establishing a two-term limit to serve on the board of zoning appeals and the planning commission, and the rezoning of an area of land at 715 Koon Rd. from Planned Development to General Commercial. 

There is also an approval to change the traffic pattern on Woodrow St. at Lake Murray Blvd. making it a right turn only, and appointments to the Okra Strut Commission and the planning commission are on the agenda as well.

The meeting starts with the public hearing at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at the Municipal Building at 7300 Woodrow Street.
