Smith wins town council seat in Lexington special election

The winner was Gavin James Smith with 607 votes.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Town of Lexington has elected a new council member in a special election. The vacancy comes after Councilman Steve Baker resigned in February. 

Candidates for the seat were Constance C. Fleming, Edwin Gerace, Matthew Graham and Gavin James Smith. 

The winner was Gavin James Smith with 607 votes.

Edwin Gerace had 429 votes, Constance C. Fleming 343, and Matthew Graham had 136. There was one write in candidate. 

There will be no runoff and the election votes will be certified. 

The election was only for those who live in the city limits.
