ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A hidden gem in Orangeburg county is Lone Star Barbecue & Mercantile.

The BBQ restaurant and shop opened back in 1997 when local businessman Pat Williams, dreamed of having a restaurant with an old time country feel. So he purchased four buildings that were still standing from the early 1900s, picked them up and combined all four buildings to make Lone Star Barbecue & Mercantile in Santee.

Two of the buildings used to be general stores, one was a feed and seed shop while the other was a post office. Now those buildings are dining spaces for guest to sit and enjoy a meal.

"It’s kind of like going back in time" says Harry Schuler, co-owner of the BBQ restaurant and shop.

Schuler goes on to say, "We got an old time buffet with country food. You got old stores with a lot of old antiques and things and it’s just stuff you don’t see anymore. A lot of time people walk through the door and haven’t seen an old time store like this so it’s kind of like going back in time."

The BBQ spot is open Friday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and is located on 2212 State Park Rd, Santee, SC.
