IRMO, S.C. — People dumping trash on the side of the road is illegal and preventable. There are multiple resources available in Richland County to get rid of your unwanted goods that do not involve littering.
Bulky items such as refrigerators, washing machines or furniture can be discarded through a scheduled pick up appointment as long as the pick up location is a residential area.
Household electronics such as televisions or printers, must be physically dropped off at one of Richland County's staffed drop off locations.
You can find a full list of drop off locations along with what they accept here.
Dumping trash in non designated areas is illegal and harmful to the environment. You can face up to a $1,000 fine or up to a year in jail according to South Carolina Laws.
