Public visitation announced for children killed in Sumter

News19 is working to gather additional details for Sgt. Maj. Carlos Evans who was also slain that night.

SUMTER, S.C. — Organizers have announced visitation plans for three children who were killed in Sumter just days earlier.

Job's Mortuary confirmed to News19 on Saturday that the public visitation for 5-year-old Aayden Makai Holliday-Slacks, 11-year-old Ava Jazlynn Holliday and 6-year-old Aason Makai Holliday-Slacks will be held on Thursday, March 30 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

This will follow a private visitation earlier in the day that is reserved for the family.

At this time, a Celebration of Life service is also being planned, however, the location is still being determined in order to accommodate attendees.

News19 has not yet been able to verify visitation and funeral plans for Sgt. Maj. Carlos Evans who died in the same incident.

The three children and Evans were shot and killed on Tuesday evening by Charles Slacks Jr. who then took his own life. Police said that he killed the victims after arriving at the home of his ex-wife and using a key to enter the home.

In the heartbreaking aftermath of the tragedy, the community has begun tying white ribbons on trees in the area. The past home owner's association president for the area, Eddie Jackson, said there are also plans to plant white flowers outside each home to continue honoring the lives that were lost.

He told News19's Sam Perez, however, that the most important thing people can do right now, if not able to assist directly, is to pray.

News19 will provide updates on all visitation and funeral plans as they become available.
