SUMTER, S.C. — Larry Fraser leads a church in Sumter County.

Like many people in the area, he enjoys fishing.

Now, he's hoping the sport can bring people together to create positive change.

"I got with some guys a couple of weeks ago and we were talking about trying to do some things to try to reach out to our community," Fraser said.

From that meeting, came an idea. The group of church leaders decided to make a fishing tournament to raise money for people in need.

"So, we just thought that this would be a great way to give an outlet for those that enjoy fishing and getting out in the outdoors to just give of themselves and have a fun day on the lake doing what they love to do just to raise money for a great cause here in Sumter," Fraser said.

The 'Go Fish' tournament cost $125/boat for a two-person team to enter.

"Any size boat, any size motor, as long as you can keep your fish alive for weigh-in," Fraser said. "We welcome anybody to come be a part."

The money raised will go to the Sumter United Ministries, a faith-based, nonprofit that assists those in need in Sumter County.
