What's happening in Downtown Camden?

Farmers market, wine bar and new apartments are all on the horizon.

CAMDEN, S.C. — "I'm just anxious to see all the new positive things that are happening in Camden," Connie Beccue of Menagerie Antiques said. "We've had a lot of great improvements over the last few years, and we've got a lot more coming."

Main Street Program Manager Katharine Spadacenta  says, downtown Camden saw 13 new businesses open in 2018 and several more already this year, including the New Orleans Style Seafood restaurant on Broad Street and an artisan market.

The Kershaw County Farmers Market also moved downtown recently.

It's located on 906 Broad Street and is open on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - Noon and Monday for 'Monday's at the Market,' where you can check out food trucks from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

There's also a new wine bar coming soon to the old Roxie and Hart building. It's expected to be named Broad & Vine. They're also anticipating new apartments for the upper floors of that building, according to Spadacenta.

"We've seen growth in all parts of Camden," Spadacenta said. "We have the new River Oaks shopping area out on our western edge of town and we're just promoting growth and development wherever there are places to be filled."

City officials are hoping to continue to promote small businesses and grow the area as a tourist destination.
