Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The City of Columbia and Richland County came together to implement a new program aimed to prevent drowning across the Midlands."Swim Safe" is a free program open to the public and people of all ages.
Thomas Clark, Board Chairman of the Richland County Recreation Commission says learning to swim can be a matter of life and death. "It's not just for kids, its for anybody o to 99 years old that need to know the basic life saving techniques."
Over the past several weeks, there have been six drowning deaths in the Midlands. The City of Columbia and Richland County hopes an event such as this can reduce the chance of more incidents like those from occurring.
The Swim Safe program will take place on Saturday, July 15th from 9am to 12pm. The event will be held at both St. Andrews Park & Eastover Park.
