"The Wall That Heals" Makes Stop In Camden

A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is making a stop in Camden, SC.

Camden, SC (WLTX) - The Wall That Heals travels the country honoring both those who came home safely and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice throughout the Vietnam War. This week the mobile replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be stationed in Camden.

"A lot of them didn't get the chance to go to Washington, DC to see the wall and this give them a chance to come and visit the wall," David Fuller said.

Fuller is a Vietnam Veteran and one of the men who helped bring the exhibit to the area. Just like the memorial in Washington, DC, The Wall That Heals lists the more than 58,000 men who died serving in the US military throughout the Vietnam War.

Joe Hodge brought his family to see the exhibit.

"I was in Vietnam in late '69 and '70. I was a field superintendent. We were there in support of the aircraft," he said.

Hodge said he made it home safely, but without a warm welcome.

"We had a lot of young men that was called to go and serve, but were not appreciated when they came back. It was a bloody time in history that was not appreciated," he said.

Hodge said he hopes others will come to see the powerful reminder of those who gave their lives for our country.

"If they come and view this wall, they can see the amount of people that was called upon to go and serve and serve honorably and did not come back," he said.

Fuller also said he hopes those who do come leave with a greater sense of pride.

"I think that's what our nation has lost over the last few years, a lot of pride for our military and our nation."

The Wall That Heals can be viewed at any time and will be set up until 4 p.m. Sunday.
