"This Is A Call That No Family Wants To Get", Five Points Shooting Victim Recovers

Kidron Deal has undergone two surgeries since Sunday's shooting.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The three victims from this past weekend's shooting in Five Points are still recovering.

Kidron Deal underwent his second surgery Wednesday and has been taken off the ventilator, after he was hit in the face by a bullet.

"This is a phone call that no family wants to get."

Imagine getting a phone call in the middle of the night, saying your loved one was involved in an altercation and was at the hospital.

"So many things ran through our heads because we didn't know right away what happened."

That was the reality for Nadesta, as her nephew, Kidron Deal - or Kid, as he's called by those closest to him - was one of the victims shot during Sunday morning's shooting at Five Points.

"A lot of lives have been affected," she said.

Deal is still in the ICU at Palmetto Health Richland and has already gone through two surgeries since Sunday, but Nadesta said he is off the ventilator and responding to family.

"He's actually doing really good for what has happened to him. He's giving us heart symbols, giving us thumbs up, letting us know that he is strong in this situation and that he's doing good," she said.

According to Nadesta, Kid has a big personality and is the life of the party. J.R. Green, the superintendent for Fairfield County Schools, couldn't agree more.

"He was always laughing, smiling, and joking. Always seemed to be in good spirits," he said.

Despite the pain that her family is going through, Nadesta said they are keeping faith that Kid is past the worst part and they can focus on his recovery.

But she wants those responsible to know one thing.

"We just want him to know that he really hurt our family and other families. There are a lot of families that had their lives turned upside down."

The suspect, 22-year-old Arthur Jones Jr., was charged with three counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Bond has been set at $3 million.

Police say Jones was involved in an argument with another male before he allegedly shot multiple times into a large crowd, according to investigators.

One of the victims, identified as Howard Boone Jr., has a spinal cord injury that might be permanent. Kidron Amaziah Deal, another person hit by the gunfire, has a bullet in his neck. And the last victim, Anfernee Kirkland, has been released from the hospital, but has a lower back injury that might require further attention.

After seeing themselves on the news, police say Jones and the three men captured in the surveillance pictures turned themselves in to CPD investigators.

Investigators say they do not believe the three men were directly involved in the shooting, therefore, no charges will be filed against them at this time.
