Student charged for threatening Columbia middle school

Officers say a student who doesn't go to E.L. Wright threatened the school on social media.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Richland County deputies are charging a student for making a threat at E.L. Wright Middle School.

Officers say on Sunday, January 12, officers say they learned of a threat made on social media about the school.

Officers say they quickly identified the juvenile who issued the threat. They say he does not go to E.L. Wright.

The juvenile will be charged with student threats.

On Monday, Jan. 13, the school had additional deputies as a precautionary measure.
