CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. — Three men from Columbia were among the four people killed in a crash in Chester County Sunday along Interstate 77.

The Chester County Coroner's Officer confirmed three people from Columbia were among the victims: 29-year-old Treshawn Simmons, 29-year-old Daniel Ewing III, and 20-year-old Thomas Grant III.

The three were driving in a Honda Civic that was involved in a collision with a Chevrolet pickup near the Chester/York County line around 3:10 a.m. on September 11.

Master Trooper Gary Miller with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the Chevrolet crossed the southbound lanes and struck the Honda head-on. The driver and two passengers in the Honda were killed as well as the driver of the Chevrolet. A passenger in the Honda survived.

Richburg Fire-Rescue, which responded to the crash, said the southbound lanes near the accident were closed for seven hours.

The agency added a truck driver also stopped to help and attempted to put out a fire at the wreck with his own extinguisher even before fire crews arrived.

"Your attempts to assist and your amazing compassion did not go unrecognized," Richburg Fire-Rescue said in a Facebook update later Sunday.
