Traffic Woes Continue On Clemson Road

A water main break occurred last Thursday shutting down Clemson road and causing a head ache for drivers but with schools in the area heading back to class it could cause even more of a back up on the road.

Columbia, SC - (WLTX) A water main break occurred last Thursday shutting down Clemson road and causing a head ache for drivers.

With schools in the area heading back to class it this week it could cause even more of a back up on the road.

Pravhlen Bhambra is a student from Midlands Technical College who commutes from home. Her classes start next week but due to the construction her commute may take a longer. Bhambra says, "it’s a little confusing of what side will be open what side will be closed. I know they closed the entrance to where I get to my house so instead of going through the way I usually go I have to go around to another area so it will be a little bit of a head-ache."

Ish Abdus-Saboor is the Director of Communications for Richland Two School District and ahead of the first day of school this Wednesday Saboor is sending this message to all concerned parents taking their kids to school.

Saboor says, "There are kids who are nervous there are parents who are nervous we’re all really excited, just give yourself that extra time and that’s going to alleviate the stress and the anxiety in the morning. There are always going to be traffic hiccups but if you give yourself that little bit of time that will make things much easier."

Construction crews got to work repairing the break as early as yesterday and Dana Higgins, the director of engineering for the city of Columbia explains the timeline of the project.

Higgins says, "We knew school was starting soon so we wanted to get a contractor on board quickly. We gave them 14 calendar days for the completion of the project. So we will have the same traffic pattern for the next two weeks."

Two lanes are open south bound towards Two Notch road while one lane is open northbound going towards Summit Pkwy.
