US Census Bureau seeks to fill 6,000 positions in Midlands counties

Work to begin in August 2019 for 2020 Census in Richland, Lexington, and Kershaw counties

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The U.S. Census Bureau is looking to fill over 6,000 positions in the Midlands area for the upcoming 2020 nationwide census. 

The SC DEW Career Coach will be parked in front of Columbia's City Hall, 1737 Main St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 29, to answer questions and help people apply for positions online. 

Jobs will begin in August 2019 and offer flexible hours and pay $14.50 to $15.50 per hour, plus mileage. These positions will be responsible for confirming the addresses of all dwellings well ahead of the 2020 schedule of enumeration (“Census takers”) next year.

The SC DEW Career Coach will include computer and internet capabilities for up to 10 people at a time. Individuals will be guided through the application process, approximately 15 minutes and a background check will be conducted. No resumes necessary.
