Woman reported false assault at Harbison Walmart, police say

A woman who caused "public concern" with a social media post regarding an alleged assault is being charged for lying to police.

A woman who caused "public concern" with a social media post regarding an alleged assault is being charged for lying to police.

Kristen Michelle Rimes, 26, told police she was assaulted by an unknown male in the parking lot of Walmart on Harbison Boulevard back in November. In the report, Rimes claimed she hit her head on the pavement when she was forced out of her car by the suspect, who tried to "force down her pants."

A social media post about the incident, which reportedly contained false information, caused public concern, according to Columbia police.

Rimes filed the report the Columbia police on November 26, but an investigation revealed she was never at that Walmart on the night of the reported incident.

She was charged with filing a false police report and false swearing to police last month and booked at the Richland County Detention Center.
