A woman visiting an inmate at a South Carolina prison is accused of attempting to smuggle in contraband, according to the S.C. Department of Corrections (SCDC).

Shavonna Viola Whiteside was arrested on Saturday, May 12 during inmate visitation at Lieber Correctional Institution in Dorchester County. Officials say Whiteside hid 13 grams of tobacco, wrapped in clear plastic wrap, in the front of her pants and then passed it to inmate Joseph Whiteside during visitation.Whiteside is charged with criminal conspiracy and attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband.

Lieber Correctional Institution, in Ridgeville, SC, is a maximum security prison that houses violent offenders with longer sentences and inmates with behavioral problems.
