Troopers looking for tractor-trailer driver in fatal Sumter County motorcycle hit-and-run

Troopers would like to speak with the driver of the tractor trailer, who did not stop after the fatal crash.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one person was killed in a hit-and-run involving a tractor trailer and a motorcycle in Sumter County Sunday night.

Troopers are now looking for the driver of the tractor trailer after the driver did not stop at the scene.

Highway Patrol is looking for a white in color tractor-trailer, possibly with gold and blue lettering on the trailer.  The vehicle was last seen traveling south on South Brick Church Road from Highway 378.

Corporal Sonny Collins said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 378 and SC Highway 527.  

He says a motorcyclist was traveling on Highway 378, when the person was hit by a tractor trailer traveling on Highway 527.

Cpl. Collins said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene. The driver has been identified as 24-year-old Clayton Moore.
