MRN Lets "Rusty Be Rusty" On The Airwaves

Former Cup champion Rusty Wallace can be heard throughout the NASCAR season on the Motor Racing Network. Wallace is an analyst for MRN which allows the outspoken Hall of Famer to give an unbridled assessment of what is transpiring on the track.

As a retired race car driver, Rusty Wallace still maintains a busy schedule.

Whether it's overseeing his Rusty Wallace Driving Experience or his auto dealerships, there is more than enough to keep him hopping. Rusty even came out of retirement in 2015 to compete in the X Games where one of the events featured Robby Gordon's Speed Energy Stadium Super Truck Series. In 2016, Rusty was back on the track at Daytona in the Ferrari Finali Mondiali.

But he is still involved in NASCAR and during the season, he has a 21-race commitment to be the lead analyst for the Cup races on the Motor Racing Network. He doesn't do all the events, just the races at tracks owned by International Speedway Corporation. I

On Wednesday, Wallace was at the Governor's Mansion for Darlington Day to help promote the upcoming Bojangles Southern 500 and he talked about how much he enjoys his days in the broadcast booth for MRN.

"They let Rusty be Rusty", said Wallace.

"They let me talk the way I want to talk about the topics I want to talk about and really, they never count me down ever. None of this 'Hey, we're going to commercial in three seconds, hurry up and quit talking'. I get to finish my thought and it's a fun time.

"I just love being me and I love this sport. This sport's made me a lot of money. It took me from being a punk kid in St. Louis that nobody knew and I came down here and I feel like I'm home down here in the Carolinas. I love it. I did television for 10 years with ESPN and when that ended, I get to do radio now."

Wallace is a 1989 Cup champion who has 55 career wins. He is already looking forward to the Bojangles Southern 500 in Darlington where Brad Keselowski will be running a 1990 paint scheme that Wallace used in wins at Charlotte and Sears Point.
