Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Longtime Richland County Councilman Norman Jackson has lost his bid for another term in office, losing his Democratic Primary contest to Chakisse Newton.
Newton won easily, 62 percent to 38 percent.
Jackson had represented District 11 since 2006, and in 2014, had served as council chairman. Newton is the founder and president of Cardinal Consulting and is a motivational speaker.
No Republicans had field for the seat, so Newton is the presumptive winner for the November general election.
District 11 represents a large stretch of Lower Richland County, around Highway 378.
