School bus vehicles damaged after tornado rips through Kershaw county

31 of the 33 vehicles were damaged or completely destroyed during the tornado.

KERSHAW, S.C. — The tornado that touched down here in Kershaw county not only ripped through North central high but also damaged school buses.

The Superintendent says about 31 of the 33 vehicles were damaged or completely destroyed during the tornado. The school has received around 30 buses on loan from Charleston, Newberry, Darlington and a host of other areas throughout the state.

The school official says that some of the vehicles are repairable  but will cost upwards to $100,000.

Buses are anticipated to run their normal route when school returns tomorrow but for parents concerned the superintendent has this message.

"The parents concerned about transportation, our principal has sent out a note and if your student doesn’t usually ride the bus that we’ve asked them to contact the transportation office" says Robinson, "Give us their name and their address and we’ll get it into the system so we make sure we pick them up."
