Irmo farmer's market brings community together every week

Local vendors travel to Irmo High School each Tuesday to provide fresh, local products to the Irmo community.

IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo farmer's market is a place for the community to come together and give back to their local schools.

Each Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. (weather permitting), local vendors set up at Irmo High School for a community market.

Some Midland's favorites like Sonnie's Refreshments, Cottle Strawberry Farm and Lil Duck Kombucha, who are usually at bigger markets like Soda City, set up shop to serve the Irmo community.

“Its primarily for the community but our teachers and students are just such a big part of that," said Lauren Sherr, the event organizer and Irmo High Schools staff member. "But, its also really important for the members of the community to have things at this high school to that says, come out and enjoy time together and with your family at Irmo High School because it really is kind of the center of this area.”

"Oh we love the Irmo Market," says Louie Carter, owner of Tiger Lily Flower Farm. "It’s a small town feel and we’ve got some of the same people come through every week and the vendors here are just awesome its like a little family.”

When deciding to put on this market, Sherr talked with vendors about some part of it benefiting the school. They offered 40 percent of the market's profit to go back to Irmo High School which she says was "very gracious."

The market serves the community, but is also beneficial to teachers at Irmo High School.

"We planned for it to be Tuesdays at five because our teachers actually get off at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays," Sherr said. "So it makes a nice environment for them to come off of work to get their veggies before they go home."

The Irmo Farmer's Market takes place every Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Irmo High School at 6671 St Andrews Rd, Columbia, SC 29212.
