Three Arrested in Clemson Road Drive-By Shooting

Investigators say that some of the people involved in the shooting admitted to gang affiliation.

Columbia (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have arrested three men in connection with the shooting along Clemson Road that happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning. Markus Allen, 17; Samuel Clemons, 19; and Jason Belton, 19, have all been charged with two counts each of assault and battery with intent to kill.Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the suspects fired a shotgun, from their van, which was traveling on Clemson Road, into a jeep containing two victims that were also traveling on Clemson Road. Lott added that the preliminary investigation has determined that there was a verbal altercation between the suspects and victims at "Special Occasions Night Club" on Saturday night. Authorities say that they encountered each other again on Clemson Road early Sunday morning and Belton, Allen and Clemons opened fire on the two victims. Each of the victims were shot once each in the upper body and were transported to the hospital with non-life treating injuries.Deputies were given a description of the van and were able to make a traffic stop on Hard Scrabble Road within minutes of the shooting. Deputies were also able to locate the shotgun used in the shooting.Lott also stated that investigators have determined that several of the people involved admitted to gang affiliation but stated that they were not arguing and shooting at each other due to gang membership.
