Two suspects wanted in connection to two Newberry county shootings are now in custody.

Keante Donaldson, 23 of West Columbia was wanted on multiple charges by the Newberry County Sheriff's office.  He is charged with “Attempted Murder”, “Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime”, and “Resisting Arrest” was taken into custody regarding charges stemming from an incident that occurred in the City of Newberry on September 18, 2018. Donaldson led Bamberg County authorities on an all-night chase the previous day.

While searching for Donaldson, Jaywon Jones of Newberry, was found hiding in the attic of a house on lower Main Street in Newberry. Jones, who was wanted on multiple charges in connection with a drive-by shooting that happened on Brown Chapel Circle in the Helena section of the county on December 2, 2018, was taken into custody without incident.

Jones is charged with “Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling”- 2 counts, “Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of Violent Crime”, “Breach of Peace- High & Aggravated”, and “Kidnapping” regarding that incident.

According to reports, law enforcement received information that Donaldson was possibly at the Main Street residence and the Newberry Police Department, the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, and SC Law Enforcement Division worked together to captured the men.

Both of the suspects arrested, were currently out on bond for previous violent offenses and have been denied immediate bond hearings because they were out on their previous bonds and their current charges will require going before a circuit court judge for the most recent charges.

In addition, 8th Judicial Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo, has advised that he is requesting a revocation of the previous bonds on both Donaldson and Jones in addition to requesting no bond on the current charges.

Newberry Police Chief McClurkin said, “These two subjects were a danger to the community and are now off the street. They use firearms to terrorize city and county neighborhoods placing innocent citizens at risk. We will continue to work together using our resources to make strong court cases and bring these individuals to justice”.

"The apprehension of dangerous individuals from our community, is an example of how the public, along with numerous law enforcement agencies, work together to keep our communities safe. It’s because of the grave indifference of human life by individuals like these, that we in the law enforcement community, have a purpose. It is more than imperative that we continue to work together to ensure that individuals like these, are not allowed to hold our communities hostage. If you are going to terrorize our neighborhoods, we are going to use any and all means at our disposal to hunt you down and bring you to justice. We will not tolerate this type of dangerous nonsense”, said Sheriff Foster.
