Woman charged with DUI after car crashes into Columbia apartment

The person staying at the apartment said it sounded like an earthquake when the car came crashing through.

Columbia police have charged a woman with DUI after they say her car crashed into an apartment over the weekend.

Officers announced Monday that they'd filed the charge against Kelley Thompson for the incident that took place at the Wellington Apartments on Greenlawn Drive.

The car went into the side of a unit there Saturday afternoon. Jan Sown, the woman who lived at the apartment,  did not report any injuries.

"I was in the bedroom at the front of the apartment and then I just heard a loud noise, sounded like an earthquake so I went out into the hall and there was a car sitting in my living room," Sown told News19. "All of my pictures, my sofa, chairs all my dining room, everything that was in the dining room and living room was runover."

Thompson was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was later arrested.

She's has been released on a personal recognizance bond, which means she doesn't have to pay any money unless she violates the terms of her bond.
