A Major Moment For One Player At The Bojangles Bash

A player with special needs on the Ridge View basketball team shook the gym by scoring his very first varsity points in a standout moment during the Bojangles Bash.

COLUMBIA, SC — Xavier Major is a fitting name for young man at Ridge View High School. He had a major moment in the final night of the Bojangles Bash.

The Bojangles Bash highlights some of the top players in the Midlands and the country in their annual showcase at Ridge View high School. Xavier is not a top recruit but he's the most important player who never heard of.

Xavier is a senior on the Ridge View basketball team and has special needs. But with the help of his teammates and the Ridge View coaches he had a game to remember. He entered the game in fourth quarter with the Blazers up big against Lower Richland on Saturday night.

Xavier's teammates grabbed a rebound and quickly passed it up the court to Xavier and he scored on his first short. The place went nuts.

This is his first year playing varsity sports at Ridge View and what Bo Bash debut for the big man.

Xavier wasn't done. He scored the last basket of the game as well. The team came out and celebrated with Xavier as if they won the state championship. Ridge View won 85-47 but those four points by Xavier were major.

Ridge View has stars like Georgetown commit Malcolm Wilson and standout guards like Waylyn Napper and Crosy Harris-James but head coach Yerrick Stoneman says Xavier has become one of their most important players.

"X is a very special young man. He brings a lot of excitement and energy within our team. He's brought our team a little closer together," Stoneman said. "Last year we became a family and now we add somebody else and he's really helped us to bond and become a really tight knit family."

Coach Stoneman adds that Xavier has been the leader at workouts this year as the Blazers look to defend their 4A state title.

"Big X is like our little mascot. He's been the one whose been driving us throughout the summer and into the fall coming to our workouts. He's very motivated a special kid for us here at Ridge View. This is his senior year in high school so first time he's been able to make a team at the varsity level. So four point, some big buckets there at the end so really proud of him."

A lot of people will be cheering for Xavier and the Blazers this year. Ridge View will doubt try to find a way to get Xavier the ball if there are able to get to the state championship.
