There is plenty on the line in Saturday's Orange and White game at Clemson. For starters, the winning team gets a day off from training, while the losing team has to come in and go through a normal workout.
Long term, there are position battles up for grabs and a solid showing for some could open the eyes of coaches and give them something to think about when they release their summer depth chart in a few months. It will also be the final impression they get to make before August.
“Even though it’s just a spring game, it’s a big deal for a lot of those guys,” Swinney said. “And it gives you a great chance to coach them and for them to grow from that experience and be more prepared for August when it gets here. A lot of those guys are going to have to play.
“And then it’s about how they’re going to compete because this team’s different; it’s a different deal. Some guys get more reps than maybe they’d get in a normal practice. So how are they going to take advantage of that? It’s treated as a game. We’ll see who can and evaluate from there.”
Kickoff in Death Valley is set for 2:30 p.m.
