After a tumultuous summer, the Swansea Tigers were able to get on the field for the first time in 2018 as they took part in the Joe Turbeville Jamboree at Irmo High School.
With interim head coach Eric Pack patrolling the sidelines, Swansea defeated Richland Northeast 21-0.
Former head football coach Greg Wright was fired at the end of June, roughly a month before the start of preseason drills. He has a lawsuit that has been filed against Lexington School District Four.
With all that going on, Pack and the Tigers have soldiered on as they get ready for the season opener at home against Lower Richland in week zero.
In other action at the Joe Turbeville Jamboree, two-time defending 5A state champion Dutch Fork defeated Ridge View 28-0. Head coach Tom Knotts said in the preseason that he may have his most talented team since he arrived at Dutch Fork.
In the final game of the 43rd annual Camden Shrine Club Jamboree, the Camden Bulldogs hosted Spring Valley with the Viking winning 14-7. The state's oldest high school stadium that is still in use, Zemp Stadium has undergone extensive renovations with the visitors side now serving as the home side.
