Gamecocks ready to hit the diamond

The USC baseball and softball teams preview the 2020 season.

After coming within one game of advancing to the College World Series in year one. Mark Kingston's second year saw the team finish 28-28 without a trip to the NCAA Regionals.

So as he gears up for the start of his third preseason in Columbia, Kingston knows the expectations are to make a deep run in the postseason with an eye on Omaha.

“We know what the goals are of our administration and our fans and our alumni and our current staff and team, and it’s to get to Omaha,” Kingston said. 

“Are we there yet? I don’t know. We will get on the field this year and we will play our butts off to try to get there."

Gamecock Softball Preview

Beverly Smith is entering her 10th season in charge of the Gamecock dugout and the program is on a seven-year streak of advancing to the NCAA Regionals. 

In 2019, Carolina finished 38-19 and lost in the Tallahassee regional. Smith wants her team to get to the point where it is hosting a Regional which it did in 2018.
