An Airport High School Freshman Dazzles At The State Track And Field Championships

Jayla Jamison Wins Four Gold Medals At The State Track And Field Finals. She's A Freshman At Airport High School

COLUMBIA, S.C. — There's probably one place synonymous with high school track and field in the Midlands and that's Spring Valley High School. The state track and field championships took place on the track surrounding Harry Parone field on Saturday.

There were several young athletes who shined bright on the big stage including one young lady we may be talking about for the next three years.

The real star of the day was Airport high school freshman Jayla Jamison. Jayla won not one, not two, not three but four gold medals.

Her standout performance came in women's 200 meter race that clinched her fourth gold medal on the day.

"You know God allowed me to come out here and be healthy so I can perform and do good in all these races and bring home another championship," Jayla said.

Richland Northeast runner Shani'a Bellamy also turned heads during the state meet. The junior repeated as the 400 meter state champion, placed second in the 100 meters and rounded out her day with a bronze in the 200 meters.

But ultimately the day belonged to young Jayla Jamison.

"I'm thankful I get to compete with these good competitors. When I got here I was feeling good, ready to race against all these good people and do what I came out here to do."

Also of note WJ Keenan two-sport athlete Elijajuan Robinson placed first in the men's 200 meter race. It's his first gold medal finish and a nice way to cap off his senior season at the school.
