CLEMSON, S.C. — Well we might be hearing "we're just little ole Clemson" and "we're the underdog" talk from Dabo Swinney again this year. The defending national champions of college football apparently still have some work to do.
The Tigers went 15-0 last season, no one has done that in modern era and they have the top recruiting class for 2020 but Phil Steele has Clemson ranked second behind Alabama in the new preseason top 25 poll.
Apparently revenge will be big for the Crimson Tide who lost 44-16 to Clemson. They have six starters coming back on defense and not a lot of players left.
For the Tigers Trevor Lawrence is returning as the starting quarterback will look to put together a full season which might might end with a Heisman trophy. Trevor has arguably the best group of receivers and Travis Etienne Jr, another potential Heisman hopeful, will lead the backfield.
So maybe this is the year for the Crimson Tide and Clemson to meet for a 5th time in the College football playoff.
Georgia is ranked fourth to lead six other SEC teams in the top 25. South Carolina was not ranked in this poll.
