Future Gamecock Zacch Pickens Is South Carolina's Mr. Football

COLUMBIA, SC — Some big news for USC bound player Zacch Pickens. You can now call him Mr Football.

Today Zacch was named South Carolina's Mr Football at the Shrine Bowl. He will be the 10th Mr Football to join the Gamecock program. This is also the second straight year that a Mr Football is coming to USC. Fort Dorchester quarterback and current freshman Dakereon Joyner won it last year.

The towering defensive lineman was a gentle giant who was gracious in receiving the prestigious award.

"I don't know what to say about it right now. I'm just glad I got it. I really wanted somebody else to win it but it's a huge honor to receive that award," Pickens said.

Zacch is the first defensive lineman to win the award since Jadeveon Clowney in 2010. The TL Hanna defensive lineman has been compared to Clowney in terms of potential impact on the program and now they have a tangible common thread.

The star player led TL Hanna to their first state final appearance since 1974. He totaled 87 tackles, six sacks and 15 tackles for loss. But he was also a dual threat. He led TL Hanna in rushing with over 800 yards on the ground and 21 touchdowns. He added a pick six in the 5A state championship game against Dutch Fork as well.

This latest award gives Zacch a sweep of the state awards. He is the Gatorade Player of the year and SC Football Coaches Association defensive lineman of the year.

Zacch will be an early enrollee for the Gamecocks in January
