COLUMBIA, SC — During fall camp in the college football you can never get enough of these stories. Walk-ons who receive scholarships.
This year redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Chandler Farrell received a big surprise after practice on Saturday. He is now on scholarship and his teammates and family couldn't be happier for him.
Chandler walked-on to the program out of Summerville High School and Will Muschamp said the coaching staff loves his work ethic.
"I told the team if you want to talk in terms of-we're a blue collar organization and we talk about effort, we talk about toughness, we talk about discipline, we talk about team first mentality and we talk about competing and earning what you get. Chandler Farrell in two years has done those things to a T. He's the epitome of a guy that does those sort of things," Muschamp said.
Along with his work ethic Chandler adds much needed depth and versatility to the offensive line.
"Right now he's our backup center," Muschamp added. "He gives us some position variety. Sadarius Hutcherson goes down then Donnell Stanley can play guard. He gives us some flexibility in what we're doing because of the way he's worked, changed his body since he's been here and certainly very proud of him."
