Chargers' Mike Williams Thrilled To Pay It Forward In Hometown

SANTEE, SC — Out in Santee LA Chargers receiver Mike Williams came back to his alma mater in Lake Marion High School to host his first youth football camp and community fun day. Campers lined up early to receive shirts and full day of activities.

The former Clemson wide out was just as excited as the kids were. Over 500 campers were at his football camp Saturday.

"I always dreamed up doing something like this. I mean just coming out here and giving back to the community and letting the kids enjoy themselves," Mike said.

Former LR standout and Clemson defensive back Marcus Edmond was one of the coaches for the camp. He's also an LA Ram.South Carolina defensive tackle Jabari Ellis was helping out as well.

"I mean it's always about giving back to the youth. We've all been there. We all wanted to go to camps of NFL players," Marcus said. "Overall it's about giving back to the youth. Giving back to the community."

The USC/Clemson rivalry was put aside to provide a great day of football and fun for the community that made Mike Williams who he is today. In fact this camp was inspired by former Gamecock and Super Bowl champion Alshon Jeffery.

"It's something that I always wanted to do. I actually attended Alshon Jeffery's camp last year at Calhoun County and I thought it was good idea for me to also do the same thing so I kind of got the idea from him and just taking it on to do it myself."

Mike also plans to have a bigger and better event in years to come and there may be another Mike Williams caliber player who may come out of one of his camps.

"Yeah for sure. It's going to be somebody out here who is going to do the thing and be the next one hosting their own camp."
