Orangeburg golfer returns to the U.S. Senior Open

Marion Dantzler competed in his first major in 2015.

Marion Dantzler has been a professional golfer since the early 1990s and he has competed off an on since that time with a few appearances in a PGA Tour event, but mostly it's been grinding his way through golf's minor leagues.

But the last few years have seen the Orangeburg golfer compete in a few Champions Tour event and one big event - the 2015 U.S. Senior Open in Sacramento where he made the cut. While he didn't contend for the win, the knowledge he gained will be used extensively this week as he prepares for his second appearance in one of the majors for the Champions Tour.

Dantzler finished as the first alternate in a recent qualifier on Hilton Head Island. While it's not unheard for a golfer to pull out of a major and open up a spot for an alternate, the chances are much less that someone will withdraw from a U.S. Senior Open.

However, someone did and two weeks ago, Dantzler got the call that he would indeed be competing at the Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Indiana.

After making the cut in the 2015 U.S. Senior Open, Dantzler has some good memories to draw on as he looks to play the weekend with some of golf's biggest names.
