Back in March, Ernest Thompson was on the court celebrating Lower Richland's first state championship in basketball since 1999.

As a member of the football team, he endured some tough times such as a winless season in 2016. But 2017 saw the Diamond Hornets post a 7-5 season which included sharing the region title and advancing to the third round of the state playoffs - accomplishments that had not been met since 1991.

In the classroom, Ernest maintains a 3.6 grade point average and meets the high standards set by his family. His grandmother has nearly 50 years in the teaching profession and his father is a professor at South Carolina State.

College-wise, Ernest doesn't know where he is headed but he does know he wants to major in civil engineering.
