NEWBERRY, S.C. — On Sunday night the Newberry Wolves were selected to be the two seed in the NCAA Division II baseball tournament.
This is the first time in program history that Newberry will be in a NCAA Tournament. Their last postseason appearance was all the way back in 1977 when the Wolves made it to the NAIA World Series.
Newberry will get a bye and will play the winner of the Catawba/Young Harris Game.
If Catawba wins there could a rematch with a trip to the super regional on the the line. The last time Newberry and Catawba met it was in the South Atlantic Championship game where Newberry lost to Catawba.
The Wolves won their first South Atlantic Conference regular season title and made it to the conference championship series as well.
Led by their head coach, former Clemson Tiger and Brookland Cayce product Russel Triplett, Newberry finished the season ranked second in the NCAA Southeast Region. Their 41 wins is a new program record and these Wolves are the first team in program history win more than 40 games.

Friday, May 17
3:30 p.m. – Game 2: No. 2 Newberry vs. Game 1 Loser
7:00 p.m. – Game 3: Newberry vs. Game 1 Winner
Saturday, May 18
3:30 p.m. – Game 4: TBD
7:00 p.m. – Game 5: TBD (if necessary)
The regional winners advance to the super regional May 24-25 in a best of three series at the home of the higher seed. The winner will be the Southeast Region champion and will advance to the NCAA D2 baseball championship will be in Cary, North Carolina.
